Brandywine Roller Derby Qualifies for Women’s Roller Derby Playoffs

Brandywine Roller Derby to Compete in Division 2 Tournament in Wichita, KS

The Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) announced today that Brandywine Roller Derby has qualified for the 2016 International WFTDA Division 2 Playoffs in Wichita, Kansas, Aug. 19-21 as the 4 seed. The tournament seeding reflects the June 30 WFTDA rankings, which were based on sanctioned games played through that date. As of June, the league was ranked 47th out of 400 full-member and apprentice leagues around the world. This is the third consecutive year that Brandywine will be competing in the Division 2 Playoffs.

Now in its 11th year of revolutionizing derby and taking the sport’s athleticism and competition to new heights, the International WFTDA Playoffs and Championships bring together the most talented, highly trained skaters and teams from WFTDA member leagues. 2016 marks the most internationally inclusive competition in the WFTDA’s history, with teams from the UK, Germany, Australia, Canada, Finland, Sweden, the United States, and Norway. Whether participating on the track, cheering in the stands or watching online, WFTDA tournaments provide everyone who loves roller derby an opportunity to witness the most anticipated match-ups of the year.

The following teams will be joining Brandywine in Wichita on Aug. 19-21 to compete for a spot at the WFTDA Championships in November. The top two teams from each of the two international D2 Playoffs will advance to Championships to compete for the title of WFTDA Division 2 Champions.

ABOUT BRANDYWINE ROLLER DERBY: Brandywine Roller Derby is Chester County’s first, and only, all-female, skater-owned, flat track roller derby league. We are a full member of the WFTDA and adhere to the rules of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), the national governing body for female-only, skater-owned, flat-track roller derby leagues. The league was formed in 2010 and is now composed of over 50 members (skaters and volunteers). The league and its 3 teams practice 3 times a week. They play games monthly (March – November) at their home base, the Chester County Sports Arena, in Downingtown, PA, and throughout the US.

ABOUT WFTDA: The Women’s Flat Track Derby Association is the international governing body for the sport of women’s flat track roller derby and a membership organization for leagues to collaborate and network. The WFTDA sets standards for rules, seasons, and safety, and determines guidelines for the international athletic competitions of member leagues. There are currently 376 WFTDA member leagues and 74 affiliated leagues in the WFTDA Apprentice program worldwide. The WFTDA is governed by a five-member, volunteer Board of Directors and managed by an Executive Director.
